The team worked through the night into the early hours of Saturday morning to safely salvage food items unaffected by the fire in order for food service to continue.

By midday on Saturday, the conference centre was repurposed into a temporary kitchen where salvaged stock was stored, and from Monday Mark Allen and Geoff Sole were onsite coordinating the installation of retherm carts and scope fridges.

“A big thank you to our team members who worked long hours and came in on their days off. Their dedication and commitment to their workplace meant that our food service could keep going despite the circumstances,” said Zdenka Fuller, Acting Director of Clinical Support Services.

“Your efforts and resilience have not gone unnoticed and you are all a credit to HealthShare NSW”.

Associate Director of Food and Patient Support Services, Joel Bardsley, also praised the efforts of the team, “They have continuously shown resilience by adapting extremely well to unusual circumstances and are a testament to our values”.

“Every staff member met the challenges required to keep Food Services up and running without a useable kitchen, and our patients have benefited” he continued.

The extraordinary work and clean up didn’t stop there, with many people contributing to the restoration efforts following the fire.

“A special thanks to Harshpreet Brar, Jalpaden Patel, June Micallef and Melissa Rivera for their work and commitment after the fire. So much had to be done and these particular individuals worked tirelessly to make it happen” said Mark Allen, Sector Manager.

“It’s been an extraordinary 18 months for our staff" said Mark.

“No matter what our staff face they seem to grow stronger as a team and with greater resilience. It's a really humbling experience to work alongside people who believe in the values of their organisation and do everything they can to put the people of NSW first”.
