How we help

EnableNSW provides assistive technology and support services to help people with health needs live safely and independently at home. We also provide financial assistance for people who need to travel long distances to access specialised medical treatments not available locally.

Our work ensures that people across NSW can access the right equipment, services, and support, when and where they need it most. By supporting people at home, we help NSW Health focus on delivering the best possible care in hospitals.

Our services

We provide a range of programs and support services designed to help people participate fully at home and in their community.

Assistive technology programs:

Support with appropriate assistive technology for daily living, such as compression garments, speech generating devices, wigs, and personal alarm alerting systems.

Standard stock items for self-care and mobility equipment that can be returned, refurbished and reallocated, such as beds, wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers.

Respiratory equipment including oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, ventilators, and consumables to support independence at home.

The role of NSW Health organisations

EnableNSW operates as part of NSW Health, working closely with Local Health Districts, Specialty Networks, and the Ministry of Health.

Together, we ensure access to safe, sustainable, and equitable assistive technology services across the state.

How we work together

Ministry of Health

Sets policy, monitors performance, and represents NSW in national discussions.

EnableNSW

Provides assistive technologies for long-term loan, including individually made items. Manages service delivery, eligibility, and repairs.

Local Health Districts and Specialty Networks

Provides assistive technologies for short-term loan. Manages Equipment Loan Pools and deliver locally run services.

Steering Committee

Provides oversight, strategic advice, and reviews performance statewide.

Ownership of equipment

Assistive technologies provided on loan remain the property of NSW Health (except individually made items and consumables). This ensures equitable access and sustainability.

Assistive Technology Policy Directive

Types of assistive technology

NSW Health organisations need to maintain a schedule of the types of assistive technology that they provide.

Must meet a clear health need, be clinically supported, cost-effective, and budgeted.

Can occur if demand is low, items are unsafe, or best practice no longer supports their use.

Loaned items are repaired, cleaned, and reissued if safe and cost effective.

Equipment can be returned, or in some cases transferred to equivalent programs in other states.

NSW Health may accept donated equipment, which is assessed, refurbished, and reissued where safe and appropriate.

Careers that change lives

EnableNSW isn’t just about equipment and funding – it’s about improving lives. Every team member plays a vital part in ensuring people across NSW can live with dignity, independence, and safety.
