You will notice some familiar HealthShare NSW faces in the campaign, including Deb Connors, a Senior Liaison Officer for Patient Services and Planning, and our Chief Executive Carmen Rechbauer.

The videos and podcasts feature managers and staff with disability from across the NSW public service, telling personal stories and highlighting the importance of workplace adjustments.

A workplace adjustment can range from being allowed to work from home, to buying special software and equipment.

Carmen shared how important it is to encourage people to come forward and feel comfortable to share if they require any modifications or support, and what we can do as an organisation to improve accessibility of the workplace for all.

“It doesn’t matter if somebody has a disability. We’re employing people for their experience relevant to a particular role,” said Carmen.

At HSNSW 7.38 per cent of employees identify as having disability.

Deb shared her experience returning to work after acquiring a spinal cord injury in 2015. She describes how impactful the workplace adjustment of allowing her to attend physiotherapy sessions during business hours has been to her life.

“I felt very proud to represent HealthShare NSW in this ADNSW series. It’s so great to showcase to the rest of the public service and the NSW business community more broadly how our organisation is leading the way with diversity and inclusion,” said Deb.

The Workplace Adjustments Series is the result of 12-months’ work with Disability Employee Network leaders and Diversity and Inclusion teams in the NSW public service.
