A picture tells a thousand words, that’s why we have created an animated video to explain SmartChain, one of the largest digital transformation programs undertaken by NSW Health.
SmartChain is a whole-of-health program to digitally transform supply chain and procurement systems across NSW Health facilities. It forms part of the broader NSW Health Procurement Reform initiative.
SmartChain comprises different solutions that combine seamlessly to simplify and digitise the source-to-pay process. Solutions include, sourcing and contracts, dataflow, traceability, business intelligence and analytics, and procure to pay (P2P).
In a program of this scale, the benefits of the transformation become clearer when the individual components that make up SmartChain are viewed as an interconnected whole.

The SmartChain video is a helpful tool that provides a visual explanation of the SmartChain solution and how it improves NSW Health’s procurement and supply chain.
The video puts SmartChain into a hospital context, explaining how SmartChain delivers a single source of truth, improving overall management of procurement and supply chain data, making it fast, simple, reliable, and enabling informed decision-making.
Importantly, SmartChain supports value-based healthcare and will deliver a range of improvements across the NSW Health system.

Sharen Ozcan, Associate Director, Supply Chain Operations, Supply Chain Transformation Program, HealthShare NSW is co-leading SmartChain and has overseen the creation of the video, along with Shehryar Khan, Solution Lead, Supply Chain, Service Delivery, eHealth NSW.
“The team has done a remarkable job producing this video,” said Sharen.
“The challenge with SmartChain is that it’s a massive program of work, which is made up of numerous digital solutions. We wanted the customer base to be able to connect all those solutions and see the bigger picture of SmartChain benefits.
“SmartChain is more than just a project or an ICT solution. SmartChain is going to fundamentally change the way we work across the value chain, across NSW Health.”
Procurement Reform was established following learnings from the COVID-19 health response.
The SmartChain program is jointly managed by HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW. As SmartChain solutions are developed, they will be implemented in phases to address immediate business needs.
