New parents Carolyn and Chris Taranto who recently welcomed a baby at Randwick’s Royal Hospital for Women experienced just that when the mobile phone containing all the first photos of their newborn child Jarrah was misplaced.

The teams at the Wetherill Park Distribution Centre (WPDC) and Newcastle Linen Service (NLS) came to the rescue when the phone mistakenly ended up in a linen bag and travelled hundreds of kilometers from the hospital to the Newcastle Linen Service Facility.

With the help of phone location tracking, Chris, the newborn’s father could see that the phone had made its way to Cardiff NSW and contacted the Newcastle Linen Services team who worked tirelessly to locate the missing phone.

“With the help of WPFC, who labelled the trolleys before sending them to our site, we dedicated a small team to search through the trolleys that came from the hospital,” said Callen Miner, Customer Liaison officer at NLS.

“The father was trying to signal his phone so we could hear where it was, but the situation was becoming dire as the phone had dropped to 1% battery.”

The team searched for over an hour through 12 trolleys that held 15 bags of linen each to finally locate the phone.

“The team at NLS are dedicated to supporting our patients, so when we heard about the missing phone we jumped straight into action,” said Goran Saveski, Operations Manager at NLS.

Carolyn and Chris were so grateful to the team for their hard work and sent "sweet treats” from a local bakery to the linen site, which the team enjoyed in a COVID-19 safe way.

“A small token of our great appreciation for your help for you and your team,” texted Chris.

“The team have been working in such a challenging environment due to COVID-19, so to receive such a thoughtful gift has been a great morale boost,” said Callen.
