South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) has become the first LHD in the state to complete its upgrade of medical consumables storerooms and treatment rooms in hospitals with HealthShare NSW’s new, best-practice stock inventory system, DeliverEASE.

Storerooms and treatment rooms in 143 clinical areas across SESLHD’s six hospitals have been redesigned according to DeliverEASE principles and processes, and 359 staff have been trained in operating and maintaining them.

Staff have also received training in using DeliverEASE digital tools and dashboards for easy stock ordering, efficient stock management, and improved stock visibility across the hospital and the wider LHD.

DeliverEASE is a “game changer” for SESLHD

Louise Coldwell, Operations and Process Manager SESLHD, who led the implementation, said the DeliverEASE system provides clear visuals on stock location and availability, enabling SESLHD clinicians to easily access medical consumables when delivering patient care.

‘The completion of this project is a huge game changer for SESLHD,’ said Louise.

‘For the nurses working in the wards, their storerooms have been systematically organised so they can easily find what they need, when they need it, meaning they can devote more of their time to patient care; and dock staff experience more consistent delivery volumes, evening out their weekly workload.

‘Outpatient departments now have access to Imprest ordering; there are new storage solutions; and staff can access dashboards and learning materials. DeliverEASE is really making a difference.’

A customer survey following DeliverEASE implementation shows SESLHD staff are now much more satisfied with stock ordering, visibility, availability and storage, as well as the delivery of products to wards.

Louise said project highlights include seeing SESLHD nurses embracing change, and the positive comments and appreciation received.

‘The team and I feel a real sense of achievement completing the project. It has taken a lot of planning, organisation and collaboration. We feel inspired knowing that we have made such a positive impact on the wards and departments within the hospitals.’

DeliverEASE – transforming NSW public hospitals

SESLHD was selected as the prototype site for the DeliverEASE program, which is now being rolled out across Greater Sydney, and regional NSW commencing in 2023.

DeliverEASE staff worked across SESLHD hospitals including St George Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital, Sutherland Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women and Garrawarra Centre.

Sharen Ozcan, Associate Director, Supply Chain Operations, Supply Chain Transformation Program, HealthShare NSW said, ‘The completion of the SESLHD DeliverEASE project is a huge achievement and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved.

‘The DeliverEASE team has gone above and beyond in transforming the district’s medical consumables storerooms and treatment rooms, while hospital staff have been open to change and supportive of the whole process.

‘We know the DeliverEASE system’s new digital dashboards and tools are already making a difference in how SESLHD staff manage and monitor their stock and procurement processes and we look forward to seeing the system continue to flourish on the ground.

‘In 2023, HealthShare NSW will continue to rollout DeliverEASE across NSW. This project is transforming the state’s public health system by helping staff to better manage medical consumables supplies and supporting them in delivering a value-based approach to patient care.”

DeliverEASE is a HealthShare NSW-led initiative to reorganise medical consumables storerooms in the state’s public hospitals and improve inventory visibility and management controls. Learn more about DeliverEASE.
