The EnableNSW SASH Home Modifications Program helps people like Sheldon access funding to modify parts of their home to make it safer for them to manage their health condition.

Recently, the EnableNSW SASH evaluation team reached out to both recipients of the program as well as their clinicians who prescribed the recommended modifications to better understand the impacts of this important program. To date, the evaluation piece which was conducted via phone and email, highlighted some excellent insights and feedback, including:

  • 98% people who received home modifications said they felt it has improved their safety
  • 89% people feel more confident in their homes
  • 95% people were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the process
  • 91% of people who had previously reported a fall, had not had one since their modification was completed

“I feel less embarrassed as I require less assistance in the bathroom.”

While clinicians who prescribed the home modifications said that:

  • Modifications met their client’s goals and believe the program should continue
  • The program achieved positive patient outcomes including hospital discharge, management of falls risks, reduced risk of injury to clients and carers and allowing for the provision of care at home.

“Without the service our clients are at risk of falls and hospitalisation and their carers are at high risk of injury. I see an ongoing need for continued funding.”

The team recently learnt that funding for this important program has been extended for another 12 months, until 30 June 2023.
