Focus on people

June is Pride Month around the world – a time when our LGBTIQ+ community celebrates through a range of events and works to raise awareness of current issues facing the community, and promotes dignity, self-affirmation, equality rights and increased visibility of people of diverse sexualities and genders, and people with intersex variations.

‘GLIDE+’ (Guiding LGBTIQ+ Inclusion, Diversity and Equality) is HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW’s community for LGBTIQ+ employees and allies. GLIDE+ aims to proactively create a safe and inclusive workplace culture for LGBTIQ+ employees, build understanding, and focus on our shared experiences, rather than our differences.

This year, HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW participated in Pride by asking two simple questions:

  1. What does having the GLIDE+ community mean to you?
  2. What does Pride mean to you?

Some responses from staff include:

“Pride month is a great opportunity for us all to think about the amazing contributions that the LGBTQI+ community makes and to also reflect on the struggles that have been there and the work that's still to be done.” – Angela Ekert Gazzard, HealthShare NSW.

“Being part of GLIDE+ means I get the opportunity to learn about experiences of the LGBTIQ community and it enables me to help participate and build a culture which really provides belonging and also reduces discrimination.” – Louise Sheerin, eHealth NSW.

“For me it's a chance to work with a community and show how I can be an ally to that community and promote diversity and inclusion in whatever we do.” – Lucy Hose, HealthShare NSW.
