Accessibility features of our major worksites

This is a general guide to the accessibility features of major work sites for HealthShare NSW. The guide reflects the features of the worksites as they are now. It does not preclude the provision of reasonable adjustments which may include modifications to buildings or internal office arrangements.

The worksites covered are:

1 Reserve Road – St Leonards

Services accommodated

  • Corporate headquarters for HealthShare NSW (and Ministry of Health/other NSW health agencies)

Building type

  • 9 storey office tower

Path of travel to office

Train

  • St Leonards train station is 200m from the entrance to the 1RR building.
  • Station has escalators and elevators from the platform to the gates.
  • Designated path from station exits to 1RR, which has minimal gradient variations and generous passing space.

Bus

  • The nearest bus stop is serviced by Route 144 and is directly accessible to the building.
  • For all other routes, the nearest bus interchange is located on Pacific Highway, outside of St Leonards train station (see above for path of travel from station) and Herbert St.

Parking within 1RR

  • Accessible car spaces for 1RR for visitors
  • Wellness car spaces for employees with temporary mobility needs

Nearby Parking

  • 4x accessible car parks at Gore Hill Park Carpark (entry off Reserve Road)
  • Route from carpark is 100-300 metres. Designated footpath with slight undulations and pedestrian crossing.

Lifts

  • Smart lifts in the building:
    • Flashing lights and indicators
    • Clear, alert sounds and voice announcements

Internal office access

  • Wheelchair refuges in East & West fire stairs
  • Door release buttons on floors 2-9 lift bay exits
  • Level 1 meeting rooms fitted with hearing loop
  • Brail on signage throughout building including meeting rooms, toilets, and on the handrails of the internal staircase
  • Windows 10 digital accessibility features

Staff facilities

  • Kitchen and tea point amenities on each floor are wheelchair accessible
  • Unisex, accessible toilet on each floor
  • Adult-assisted change facility on level 1, including a toilet and shower

Charlestown Service Centre – 123 and 168 Pacific Highway Charlestown (Newcastle)

Building type

  • Two office buildings on opposite sides of the Pacific Highway linked by a fully wheelchair accessible pedestrian overpass

Path of travel to the building

  • Moderately hilly surrounding terrain
  • Australian standards compliant ramp access with lifts to all levels
  • Swipe card access to open hinged doors – force required within Australian Standards

Lifts

  • Braille number selector pad
  • Visual cues and audio announcements at ground floor and when you arrive at each floor
  • Standard braille emergency call buttons are at a height and position that can be reached by all

Internal office space

  • Spacious office interior allows easy passage of person using wheelchair or person with guide dog

Meeting rooms

  • Many are spacious allowing passage of a wheelchair or person with guide dog behind seats
  • Some are smaller and may require movement of chairs to allow wheelchair access
  • Doors are unweighted hinge doors
  • Photocopier room access is variable from spacious to inaccessible

Staff facilities

  • Accessible bathrooms that meet Australian Standards located on all levels
  • Ambulant accessible toilets located in some bathrooms and on all levels
  • Lunch/tea rooms are spacious allowing easy passage – no wheelchair accessible benches; all sinks have side mounted hot and cold water

Public transport

  • Bus stops in both Pearson Street and Smart Street adjacent to the building
  • Accessible bus services are provided to Charlestown but commuters should check this when planning their trip

Car parking

  • Accessible visitors parking spots in the building car park – access must be prearranged by contacting HSNSW-SCNewcastleReception@health.nsw.gov.au
  • Permanent parking may be able to be arranged through Colliers (Building Management) by the staff member
  • On street parking available
